Mini Review: A Canticle for Liebowitz

This is a masterpiece of science fiction and thought experiment about the function of religious societies as the only proven means of passing knowledge forward through time on any significant time scale. It is a also a deeply poetic and deeply faithful explication of catholic moral philosophy on issues of war, life and death brought to bear on the twin existential novelties of the 20th century: our capacity to destroy all we've made and the discovery of a universe more vast than we could ever have imagined.
