Mini Review: Spook Country

William Gibson: Spook Country - A former female rock singer turned journalist researches gps tagged augmented reality artists for a story and gets drawn into the world of semi-retired cold war spooks operating independently post-9/11, messing with the US gov't and the multinationals it serves. Cayce Pollard is nowhere to be found but the ominous, boundlessly wealthy Belgian named Bigend returns to supply money and connections to keep the plot moving forward. This novel deals with the odd place the aging cold war intelligence community find themselves in a post 9/11 America and highlights the active presense of Cuban/Russian sleeper agents and families on the streets of New York, ready to practice their parkour-like "systema" incorporating both spy tactics and primal religion.
